Design Tips to for Name and Registrations
Best Results
To get the best results, use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device, as this will give you a much larger preview. If you do use a mobile device, it’s best to work in landscape mode.
Text Required
Type in boat name, port or registration number you require.
Font Type
Select a font that goes with the name of your boat.
For registration numbers select a bold legible style – be aware of Roads & Maritime Services requirements.
Slant
Modify the font by slanting it.
Shadow
Modify the font by adding a shadow or outline.
A shadow is not suitable for Bungnipper, Castellar, Ice Age, Nelson Engraved, Volcano Island Inline. If you would like the face of these fonts filled in with another colour, please let us know in the “tell us” section at the end of the form.
Note our preview demonstrates a drop shadow, however we will supply a block shadow as per the shadows shown in the gallery examples. i.e. Shadow is fully connected to letters and numbers.
Arc
If you would like your boat name arced, select No Slant and request an Arc in the “tell us” section at the end of the form, making sure you have completed the area dimensions section. Refer to our Gallery – Sail – Scarlet and Lahaina, for examples of arced designs. Note: slant and arc do not work together.
Colour
Our colour range caters specifically to boating styles and fashions.
Should you require a colour outside of our standard range, let us know via the comments section at the end of this form. We have a range of specialised vinyl including woodgrain, reflective, etc.
Knowing that colour representation can vary from computer to computer, we provide 2 cross-references (Pantone Matching System and Marine Paint Colours – Awlgrip & International). Please take this variance into consideration when selecting your colour.
Boat Colour
This is for preview purposes only. The background colour is not printed.
Quantity
Insert the number of this design you require.
Size
Lettering can be made in a variety of sizes. Minimum height 12mm to maximum height 575mm and a maximum of 3000mm.
When selecting the total width of your lettering, consider not only the space available, but also the overall look of the vessel with the lettering to get a good balance.
The approximate height is automatically calculated, based on the value entered for width, plus the font-family and other factors including shadows.
Area for Placement of Your Design (Height)
Has sufficient height been allowed for your design?
Provide as accurate as possible measurements and we will check your design against this size. We will do our best to help you but can take no responsibility for wrongly sized designs.
Area for Placement of Your Design (Length)
Has sufficient space been allowed for the length of your design? Note, the higher the letters, the longer the name.
Provide as accurate as possible measurements and we will check your design against this size. We will do our best to help you but can take no responsibility for wrongly sized designs.
Obstacles
Are there any obstacles on the area where you wish to place your design? I.e. if on the transom is there a board or ladder to be considered? On the sides of the vessel, any portholes or hardware?

If you require a lifebuoy with your name, please complete the lifebuoy section at the end of the form.
Lifebuoy Measurements
Provide accurate measurements. The attached drawing indicates the measurements required.
